According to Alan Nixon, the Canaries are weighing up a move to sign the 26-year-old ahead of his contract expiring next month.

The forward has spent the last four seasons at Loftus Road, where he has been a regular presence in the first team.

Willock has made 140 league appearances in the Championship for QPR, contributing 20 goals and 22 assists (all stats from Fbref).

However, he is set to be available as a free agent, having run down his contract through its final year.

Willock issue highlighted amid Norwich interest

FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes has pinpointed why Willock might not be the most inspiring signing for supporters.

While he believes the QPR player could be a solid squad option for David Wagner’s side, he has claimed that the Canaries need someone with greater consistency.

“I have heard about the Chris Willock links,” Downes told Football League World.

“I think when he’s on form and not injured he’s a really good player to have, but I think, speaking to other QPR fans, he’s just not consistent, he’s not always at that level.

“Which is the sort of player we need.

“There’s a reason that he’s still at QPR, I think he would be an okay squad option, but I would be looking elsewhere.”

Willock came through the academy system at Arsenal, but was unable to break into the first team squad at the Emirates.

This led to his departure to Benfica, who loaned him out to West Brom and Huddersfield Town during his time in Portugal.

The 26-year-old was unable to break into the first team squad of the senior Benfica side either, which ultimately led to his permanent move to QPR in 2020.

Norwich’s Premier League chase

Norwich could be competing in the Premier League next season, with the team having earned a place in the play-offs.

Wagner’s team will face Leeds United in the first leg of their semi-final on 12 May, with the reverse fixture at Elland Road set for 16 May.

The winner will face either Southampton or West Brom in the final in Wembley Stadium on 26 May for a place in the top flight.

It has been reported that Norwich’s interest in Willock will not change regardless of if they secure promotion or not.

Willock would be another free agent signing for Norwich

Norwich have made use of the free agent market in recent years, adding Shane Duffy, Ashley Barnes and Adam Forshaw to the squad, among others, in past windows.

Willock would be a solid squad option to bring into Wagner’s team, especially given he will be available for no transfer fee.

If he was the only addition to the Canaries’ attacking options this summer then it wouldn’t be too inspiring.

However, he could be a smart addition as long as the team still intends to strengthen with one or two other signings as well.
