In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo stated that Barcelona are big admirers of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams this summer. It has been stated that the Catalan club are showing interest in recruiting the Spanish wing wizard in the upcoming transfer window.

The 21-year-old is having a fine campaign at the Spanish club after putting in a run of influential performances for them in the final third. Williams has scored seven times and earned 16 assists in 34 matches for Athletic Bilbao this season on all fronts.

The Spanish wide player has been a reliable performer out in the wide areas as he is averaging 1.6 shots, 1.5 key passes and 2.9 dribbles per game in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 78.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).

Williams is under contract at Bilbao until the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for the Catalan club to land him later this year.

Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Move In For Williams?

Williams is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates up top and can even shoot the ball with venom from long range.

The Spaniard has done well to add a lot of goals and assists to his game this season. He knows La Liga well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Nou Camp if Xavi can devise a way to get him on board in the summer transfer period. The Pamplona-born talent is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger if told to do so.

Williams would bring more firepower to Barcelona‘s frontline. He might even help the Catalan club challenge for some major honours over the next decade. At 21, the future looks quite bright for the Athletic Bilbao whizkid, so Barca would be wise to move in for him when the transfer window reopens at the end of this campaign.
